Kahuku Elementary Technology Mission Statement

We believe that the use of technology at Kahuku Elementary will enhance the learning environment and educational experience of all students. To this, we are committed to providing all students with the skill to access, retrieve and use information in the school, community, nation and international environment.

Vision Statement

Our vision is to:
*Integrate technology into the curriculum
*Provide ongoing, individual, staff development
*Provide students with unique opportunities for working with telecommunication, scanners, digital cameras, slide show production, multimedia and HyperStudio.
*Provide a schoolwide network system to exchange and retrieve information critical to learning outcomes

Improve Communication system among all stakeholders 1. Students/ Teachers will use e-mail, the internet for research, publishing, and accessing the school library database 1. Teachers will receive I-safe PDP training by the tech coordinator for the purpose of teaching all students in grades k-6 safe practices while gathering information from the internet. 1. Computers

Improve Communication system among all stakeholders Teachers/ Administration/Staff will use Lotus Notes for e-mailing, bulletins, lunch count, attendance, committee minutes, calendar, and service requests Teachers will be trained to use Lotus Notes and its modules by tech coordinator 1. LAN Teachers and staff using Lotus Notes and its modules regularly with infrequent problems    
Improve Communication system among all stakeholders Secure e-rate funding to place telephones in every classroom to increase communications with parents, and for safety and security Teachers will receive training on the Norstar telephone system by Verizon Telephones in every classroom with voice mail System in place 1. $1000 for Norstar expansion if e-rate funding is approved

Improve Communication system among all stakeholders Students in grades K-6 will create multimedia productions including web pages and videos in grades 4-6. Software to be used include Kid Pix, EasyBook Deluxe, ClarisWorks for Kids, Inspiration, HyperStudio, iMovie, Claris Homepage and AppleWorks. Teachers will be trained to create mulitmedia, to use media hardware, scanners, digital cameras, projectors and printers by tech coordinator for the purpose of helping all students in grades K-6 complete curriculum generated, computer projects. 1. 2. Students in all grades will use technology to write, edit, illustrate and publish books. Software to be used include Easybook deluxe, AppleWorks, Kid pix and Hyperstudio.
